Telling the Story of Our Watershed Through Exploration, Education, and Stewardship

The Story of our Soil
Soils are the basis of life. They are intimately connected with the plant and fungal kingdoms. Much of the life in soils is microscopic, billions of microbes completing the cycle of life. The Story of our Soils makes students aware of the critical work of decomposers. Visualizing these in the classroom through the microscope and in the field, students learn about the soil food web and how to harness this biologic activity to break down food wastes, create fertility for their schools green spaces and help address climate change with regenerative, carbon sequestering biological activity. Our cutting edge soils programs include making liquid extracts of composts created on site with Vermi and thermal composting systems and applying these extracts on campus. Our compost tea parties are legendary. Contact us to schedule your class presentation on the Story of our Soils. Whereas this curriculum is suggested for seventh grade or higher, it can be modified for younger students
